IAN believes that holistic approach including efforts in prevention, care and support for people living with HIV and AIDS, in addition to fighting against stigma and discrimination, is the most efficient way of dealing with HIV.
With support of CAFOD (Catholic Agency for Overseas Development) IAN has been working on a VCT- Voluntary Counselling and Testing programme in cooperation with Institute for Student's Health in Belgrade since 2004. As result of this project we have developed high quality VCT service following recommendations of UNAIDS and WHO.
IAN HIV and AIDS section advocates for including VCT as preventive method and its clear integration with other activities in more effective fight against HIV and AIDS in our country.
During project a partnership between government and nongovernmental organization was established in an innovative and quite needed service development. It was a certainly one of the first initiatives in Serbia which united one government health institution and NGO working on the same issue.
Current section activities are oriented towards treating mental health issues in the context of HIV and AIDS, and active support to persons living with HIV and AIDS (PLHA) and including them as equal partners in project activities.
